this for all the non spanish speaking spider-verse/miguel o’hara fans who want to sprinkle some spanish in their fics…when a spanish speaking person wants to say “little love” we’d say “amorcito” not “pequeño amor”. we add “ito” or “ita” to things to make them sound cute or small. i don’t want to sound mean but this is just something i’ve noticed in fics
will NEVER emotionally recover from klaus telling ben 2.0 all the shitty annoying things about original flavor ben and then smiling because he fucking loved ben as he genuinely really was
godddd i think about this all the time. the other siblings couldn’t stand to be around sparrow ben for any length of time because he was such a dick that they couldn’t really see him as ben but klaus never lost ben the same way the others did so time didn’t gloss over the bad parts in his memory of him and he spent all those years with ben loving and accepting him as a Class A Dick in a way the others never could
yes EXACTLY. klaus saw ben in his entirety. he recognized him as a fully realized person with flaws who STILL was wonderful and still deserved love. he adored ben despite all the pain and bullshit and bitterness between them. he knew the boy who died and he saw the person ben became after and he loved both of them. he grieves for both of them and he believes in electric boogaloo ben because he (unlike the others) understands ben to be a human. he understands the complexity of someone being an asshole and precious and beautiful all at once.
five knows only his siblings’ past and their deaths. he held them in his heart for decades and enshrined them there. he knows what they once were and he grieves for what was lost and he doesn’t quite belong in the present with them anymore but he desperately whole heartedly believes in a future where they can be all they were meant to. the years that passed have not darkened or tarnished his image of his siblings nor his faith in what they can become. he still sees them as if they were children— full of unending potential
You know, it’s kinda funny how much of high fantasy centers around kings and nobility and courtly intrigue considering that the archetypal high fantasy, Lord of the Rings, had the rather explicit moral of “saving the world is up to this backwater hick and his gardener because no politician, least of all inherited nobility, would have the ability to see past their own ambition and throw away a weapon”. Oh sure, Aragorn is a great king and all, but there’s a reason he’s over there running a distraction ring while the hobbits do the real work. Sauron loses because he gets distracted by kings and armies and great battles (i.e. typical high fantasy stuff) letting Frodo and Sam sneak through his back door and blow it all to hell.
Just saying, maybe old Jirt knew what he was saying when he said that the small folk doing their best and holding to each other was more powerful than a dozen alliances and superweapons and we should respect him for it.
The boomers are right about a lot of things. Even if sometimes they blame it on the wrong people.
Planned obsolescence is making everything terrible. Tipping is out of control, pay your damn workers a fair wage (still tip though, since that’s the system right now and they need that tip to live). Not everything needs to have an app, account, and subscription. Physical media is important. Social media is poisoning people’s minds (boomers included). America is dying (capitalism and nationalism being the main causes). Not everything needs to work off smart technology that’s a pain in the ass to use. And for fucks sake, give us buttons to push, I don’t know where the damn remote is.
And yes, fries come with the burger. Unless you’re ordering a la carte. A meal consists of more than just one item. Having sides prominently displayed that don’t come with it is just deceptive. That just leaves the workers to warn every damn customer beforehand before they (rightfully) complain. Also, sauce packs should be free.
And the video game should be complete when you buy it. When I was a kid, if you wanted to add stuff after the game was sold, you built an entire second game out of the stuff you wanted to add and called it a sequel.
People be like oh you’re in your 20s you have a whole life to live but I already feel as if I’ve missed every opportunity and made all the wrong decisions and it’s just fucked now
thinking about what is and what isn’t allowed in frame with reference ecosystems in prairie restoration
Explanation from OP in the replies
restoration ecology tends to want to restore to a past state of an ecosystem, but magically that past state never involved people! Harvest, reciprocity, etc are all ignored because we pretend there’s such a thing as prairie without people. Turns out, that imagined prairie never existed, there were always people here and there should people involved in restored prairie too!
downside: going to have to include a picture of the Giza pyramids in the slides for the lecture upside: i get to give people a crash course in why perspective matters in two frames, because

is such a funny sequence
i find most people who haven’t seen it in person don’t know that cairo is RIGHT THERE
I loved these perspectives so I took some of my own when I was in Cairo and yeah, they’re literally just. Right there. Pass em on your way to work, nbd
No, y'all don’t even understand.
There is literally a Pizza Hut across the street from the pyramids.
That Pizza Hut among other things is why Egyptologists laugh their asses off when we see another piece of media where the protagonists get “lost in the desert near the pyramids”, because it’s like… just turn around my dudes you’re only a seven min walk away from the nearest fastfood shop
